Textile Arts
Before I became obsessed with miniatures, I was a textile artist. My textile arts went under the name of Quilt Trips. It's still one of my passions, but there just doesn't seem to be enough time in the day to fit it all in. Here's a bit of eye candy of some of the art quilts I've made in the past. Some of the pictures aren't very good since they were taken several years ago with an older camera.
I've won several awards for some of these pieces, but my favorite review of my work is this one:
"Quilt Trips--A Journey in Textile Arts with Deborah Roberts: An artistic journey that begins with quilting and hand dyes, adds beading, hand embroidery and other textile embellishments, and comes to a beautiful and emotional destination. Celebrate the Goddess in art."
That kind of sums it all up for me. It's all about the journey into the art and the emotions. So if you care to, come along on the journey with me.

The Dragon and the Phoenix
This piece was made when Bruce and I were Handfasted. The patterned bead fringe took several weeks and a lot of counting tiny beads!

Oriental Wall Hanging
This is another piece I made for Bruce and I. The calligraphy is our names. Each block in this piece is hand embroidered. It's hard to see in the pictures, but there's also a ton of beading in this one. The geisha's fan and the samurai's sword are made of beads.

Some of my earlier pieces were ways of expressing how I had felt during some long, dark years with a mentally ill mother and then a homicidal, sociopathic husband.....and then the freedom of escaping and leaving all that behind to live in the light. I never could find the words to express a lot of it, but the art says what words can't.
