Death Takes a Holiday

Welcome to one of my all time favorite houses!  I think I had more fun building this kit than any other I've done.  Any time you are consumed with fits of giggles while you're working, you know you're following your passion.  This one remains in my private collection and it still makes me laugh every time I look at it.

When I started working on the Corona Concepts Houseboat kit, I really had no idea for a theme or design for it.  I put it into dry fit and let it set on a table in the studio where it could talk to me.  After a few weeks, a thought began playing in my head about making it a ferryboat on the river Styx.  That thought associated itself with the concept of Charon and where he might live.  It makes sense that he would live close to his work, so I toyed with the idea of making the houseboat his home.  Then it hit me.

Even the Grim Reaper needs time off once in awhile.  What if he were to take his party boat out on the river with all his friends?  Obviously, his friends would not be among the living, but that doesn't mean that they wouldn't like a little vacation time to relax and have fun.  And thus was born, "Death Takes a Holiday".

Things got a little out of hand once in awhile, but that's to be expected when you're working with 12 skeletons, half a dozen crazy rats, a swamp 'gator with a wicked sense of humor and one slightly tipsy skunk.  There were times this project had me laughing out loud when something new would develop.  So c'mon and join me and we'll take a little trip with the Grim Reaper on his party boat.  Don't be afraid........he really is on vacation.
